"The Australian Chamber Orchestra is a ticket to musical bliss"
The Times, London, 31 October 2001
Australia's premier chamber orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO), will perform three concerts in Japan from 11-13 October as part of Ancient Future - Australian Arts Festival Japan 2003.
Founded in 1975, the ACO has built an international reputation for its artistic excellence, stylistic versatility, and contemporary style. Unlike traditional chamber orchestras, the ACO performs standing rather than sitting, injecting a sense of energy and movement into the performance. Its vitality and youth embodies contemporary Australia.
Regular international tours of Europe, the USA, and Asia have drawn outstanding reviews for its performances at many of the world's most celebrated concert halls, including Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, London's Wigmore Hall, New York's Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Centre, Vienna's Musikvereinl, and Washington D.C's Kennedy Centre.
"This group must be the best chamber orchestra on earth" The Times, London, 1999
The ACO, unmatched in its provocative expansion of the chamber orchestra repertoire, will perform three different programs for its Japan tour. Piazzolla will feature with Tango and Aconcagua pieces, the latter being performed with the highly acclaimed classical accordion player James Crabb as soloist. Te Deum Laudamus, written by Australian composer George Lentz, will feature at the Kioi Hall concert.
To coincide with the orchestra's Japan tour, on 1 October Sony Music International will release two ACO music CDs for the first time in Japan.
The ACO's performance at Kioi Hall on 11 October is proudly supported by ABC Asia Pacific,
the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's free to air international satellite television and on-line service, available at http://www.abcasiapacific.com
The Kioi Hall concert is also sponsored by Mitsubishi Motors.
