Slack Taxi is fun, over-the-top, Australian street theatre at its best. Audiences from Singapore to Germany have delighted in Slack Taxi's outdoor antics ranging from giant puppets and origami creatures to fat ballet dancers.
Slack Taxi describes itself as resembling "a bunch of steroid-fed escapees from a giant's technicolour circus." In Japan as part of Ancient Future - Australian Arts Festival Japan 2003 and the Biwako Hall Summer Festival in Shiga, Slack Taxi, is sure to delight Japanese audiences with its creativity, humour, and skill.
Audiences will be treated to the "out-of-this-world" performance of "The Bouncers". Set on primal earth, Slack Taxi's bouncers - dynamic, tumbling, molecular characters have popped in from outer space with a mission to seed life on earth. Cosmo-pop is looking at the scientific premise proposed by Nobel Prize winner, Dr Francis Crick, that the germs of life on earth were sent on a spaceship from a distant civilisation.
Featuring performers dressed in strange inflatable units, "The Bouncers" bounce off the ground and each other, tumble, run, waddle, and crash in an energetic display of humour, acrobatic skill, and sheer energy.
Ancient Future is proud to support Slack Taxi's first visit to Japan. Their extensive international credits include EXPO 2000 in Hannover, Germany, Christmas Celebrations and WOMAD in Singapore, and the WOMAD and Glastonbury Festivals in the United Kingdom, among many others.
Slack Taxi has been assisted by the Government of South Australia and Global Japan Network.
