The Australia-Japan Foundation is delighted to present over 100 Tasmanian works of leading Japanese landscape photographer, Toshinobu Takeuchi, at the Australian Embassy in November as part of Ancient Future - Australian Arts Festival Japan 2003.
Since 1972 Takeuchi's photographic works have featured in exhibitions in Japan and internationally and his works are published in numerous photo journals and major Japanese magazines.
Over the past seven years Takeuchi has visited Tasmania on many occasions to create his exhibition Utopia - Tasmania's Four Seasons. He selected Tasmania because of its pristine landscape and physical beauty.
"..a temperate climate, an abundance of bush land, crystal-clear skies, beautiful oceans, a people and living-creature friendly environment, the ease of life on the island, makes it almost a utopia, so to speak. My photographic direction has changed since encountering Tasmania" (Takeuchi from his book of collected photographs "Shimmering Radiantly - A Message For the Future From Tasmania)
In 2001 Takeuchi held two exhibitions exclusively featuring Tasmanian works - Wind Rhyme for Heaven and Earth and Utopia for the 21st Century - which received international critical acclaim.
The Australia-Japan Foundation will host a seminar as part of their Salon Seminar Series at the Embassy in conjunction with the exhibition, providing a rare opportunity for amateur and professional photographers alike to discover the secrets behind his stunning images.
Utopia - Tasmania's Four Seasons, A Photography Exhibition by Toshinobu Takeuchi" is presented by the Australia Japan Foundation in partnership with the Australian Tourist Commission, Tourism Tasmania, and QANTAS.
